Scotland striker Kieron Bowie scored his first goal for Hellas Verona to secure a surprise comeback win away to Bologna in Serie A.<\/b><\/p>\n
Victory lifts the 23-year-old’s side three points clear of Pisa and to within six of third-bottom Cremonese as they ended a 12-game run without a victory to reignite their hopes of avoiding relegation.<\/p>\n
Bowie was making his fifth start since being sold by Hibernian in January and his goal takes his personal total to 10 in 35 club appearances this season.<\/p>\n
Last time out, Verona lost 2-1 at home to a Napoli side featuring Scotland midfielder Billy Gilmour.<\/p>\n
This time, Bowie helped them get the better of a team captained by another national team-mate, Lewis Ferguson, who will have been disappointed to be substituted midway through the second half.<\/p>\n
Bowie had set up the best chance of the first half, his flick putting Gift Orban through on goal, but the on-loan Hoffenheim forward was denied by a good save from goalkeeper Lukasz Skorupski.<\/p>\n
Eighth-placed Bologna’s Riccardo Orsolini fired against the outside of a post from a corner after the break before a bobbling shot from just inside the penalty box from Jonathan Rowe, the former Norwich City youth, broke the deadline just before the hour mark.<\/p>\n
However, Verona were level within four minutes, defender Martin Frese firing home from 20 yards.<\/p>\n
Another four minutes, another goal as Verona pounced on the counter attack and Orban’s low cross was met by the unmarked Bowie to slot home from 12 yards.<\/p>\n
Jens Odgaard forced a save from visiting goalkeeper Lorenzo Montipo, but Bowie’s first Serie A goal proved to be the winner.<\/p>\n
Verona next host 15th-placed Genoa next Sunday. <\/p>\n
Their five-game winning run ended, Bologna host Serie A rivals Roma in the Europa League on Thursday before visiting Scotland left-back Josh Doig’s Sassuolo.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
