Shoaib Bashir was pleased with his opening day effort but admitted there remains a massive job for him still to do to help Derbyshire over the line at Old Trafford <\/p>\n

Bashir\u2019s summer move to Derbys could prove to be the spark which ignites a career that had appeared to flat-line both at Somerset and with England over the winter.<\/p>\n

The 22-year-old’s 4-76 on day one against Lancashire helped ensure the visitors kept their hosts in check as they posted 351 in their first innings.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m quite young as a spinner and I think we mature quite late. It\u2019s very important to get some exposure to the County Championship and to bowl as many overs as I have,” he said.<\/p>\n

“I\u2019ve a job to do in the Championship and I\u2019m just trying to contribute to Derbyshire as much as I can.\u201d<\/p>\n

Bashir remains in contact with England spin coach Jeetan Patel saying he remains his \u201cgo-to man\u201d.<\/p>\n

\u201cI have regular conversations with him,” he said. “Having some game time is quite nice and getting to bowl some overs at this time of year.\u201d<\/p>\n

Marcus Harris made 125 on his return to Lancs from a winter\/summer of Sheffield Shield cricket with Victoria down under and he believes his side are in a decent position ahead of day two.<\/p>\n

\u201cI think with our bowling attack, we\u2019ve already got a wicket. So I think we could challenge them potentially and have a good day,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n
