Libby May, events fundraising officer at the Alzheimer’s Society said: “The money raised provides vital support to people living with dementia, and funds ground-breaking research and campaigns to make dementia the priority it should be. <\/p>\n

“There are around a million people living with dementia in the UK. We simply can’t reach everyone who needs us without the continued help of our incredible fundraisers like Apryl.”<\/p>\n

Indeed, April has been a busy month for Apryl…<\/p>\n

She has completed her 98th (Brighton) and 99th (Norfolk) road marathons before her 100th in the capital, when she hopes to accomplish the rare feat of the triple crown of 300 races.<\/p>\n

She will become the 20th person (and fifth female) to officially run 100 road, trail and ultra-marathons and claim their award patch.<\/p>\n

So what was Apryl’s toughest race?<\/p>\n

“That was Grand Union Canal Race, external<\/span><\/a>,” she said, without hesitation. <\/p>\n

The 145-mile (233km) ultra-marathon goes from the centre of Birmingham to the centre of London along the waterway’s towpath.<\/p>\n

“It took me 39 and a half hours. I had a lot of support from friends, which was lovely, as we ran throughout the night, without sleep,” she said. <\/p>\n

“We also had to contend with an electrical storm during the evening, which made it even more challenging but we got there – just.” <\/p>\n<\/div>\n
