{"id":2336,"date":"2025-11-28T12:11:43","date_gmt":"2025-11-28T12:11:43","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/outdoorthrill.cfd\/?p=2336"},"modified":"2025-11-28T12:11:43","modified_gmt":"2025-11-28T12:11:43","slug":"the-ashes-2025-stuart-broad-says-day-night-second-test-in-brisbane-a-pink-ball-lottery","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/outdoorthrill.cfd\/?p=2336","title":{"rendered":"The Ashes 2025: Stuart Broad says day-night second Test in Brisbane a pink-ball &#8216;lottery&#8217;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p> <br \/>\n<\/p>\n<div>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\"><b class=\"ssrcss-1xjjfut-BoldText e5tfeyi3\">England&#8217;s hopes of levelling the Ashes in Brisbane are dependent on a pink-ball &#8220;lottery&#8221;, says former bowler Stuart Broad. <\/b><\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">The second Test, which starts on 4 December, is a day-night match at the Gabba and follows an eight-wicket win for Australia in the first game. <\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">It means each day starts in natural light but concludes under floodlights, and a pink ball is used rather than the traditional red ball of a Test match. <\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">&#8220;We know the pink-ball Test, having played a few ourselves, is a bit of a lottery,&#8221; said Broad on the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=JUp1EMokz2E\" class=\"ssrcss-k8mrr8-InlineLink e1kn3p7n0\">For The Love of Cricket podcast<span class=\"visually-hidden ssrcss-1f39n02-VisuallyHidden e16en2lz0\">, <!-- -->external<\/span><\/a>. <\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">&#8220;Ultimately the best team generally wins Test matches but this one, it&#8217;s on a bit more of a knife edge of conditions.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">England have lost all three of their day-night Tests in Australia.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">They were beaten by 120 runs in Adelaide in 2017, before 275-run and 146-run defeats in Adelaide and Hobart on their last tour in 2021. <\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">&#8220;If you can get a brand new ball under the floodlights at the Gabba, you should be taking wickets and you can break the game open,&#8221; said Broad. <\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">&#8220;It is all about timing a little bit of when you bowl with the brand new ball. <\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">&#8220;That is why I don&#8217;t like bowling first in pink-ball cricket because you bowl with a brand new ball in daylight and it doesn&#8217;t do a lot.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">&#8220;By the time you get to the twilight period the ball is 60 overs old and doesn&#8217;t do anything &#8211; and the new ball comes too late in the day.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">&#8220;Winning the toss and batting is pretty crucial in the pink-ball Test in my opinion. That is my feeling in pink-ball cricket.
