Molly Caudery says her World Indoor pole vault title “means absolutely everything”.
The 26-year-old from Cornwall jumped a season’s best 4.85m to take gold ahead of Slovenia’s Tina Sutej in Poland.
It meant she reclaimed the title she won two years ago, a victory that propelled her onto the global stage.
Since then she has struggled at major championships, failing to register a jump at the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris having gone into the event as one of the favourites to win gold.
Last year she finished fourth at the World Indoor Championships before injuring herself in the warm-up at the World Championships in Tokyo in September.
“I’m just absolutely delighted. It hasn’t quite sunk in yet, but I’m absolutely over the moon, it was an amazing evening,” Caudery told BBC Radio 5 Live.
“It’s been such a struggle. I came to the rise quite quickly getting the world title two years ago, but since then I’ve been to Paris and didn’t have a good one there and then Tokyo and got injured.
“So it just means absolutely everything to turn it around and get the win once again.”
