Everton 2-3 Liverpool: Ten-player Liverpool hold on for derby win over Everton

Attacking threat and quality in the final third has not been a feature of Liverpool’s season so far.

But the Reds seem to have turned a corner in the past few weeks, with boss Taylor suggesting last week it is a “shame that the season is running out” as his side finally seem to have found some momentum.

After starting 2026 rock bottom of the WSL table and without a win, Liverpool are now eight points clear of Leicester before they take on Brighton on Sunday.

They have claimed 13 points from their past seven games, losing only to Manchester United and Chelsea, and were rewarded for their efficient first-half performance at Goodison Park.

They were, however, left clinging on to victory after being reduced to 10 players following Fisk’s needless second yellow card as Everton appeared from the break a completely different team.

Having failed to register a single shot on target in the opening 45 minutes, the Toffees recorded 17 second-half efforts and will think themselves unfortunate not to have found the equaliser.

They sit sixth in the WSL table and have now suffered back-to-back defeats having won their previous four league matches.

For Liverpool, it turned into a lesson in resilience.

They have dropped 11 points from winning positions this season, only Brighton have dropped more, but were able to grind out victory here in a dogged second-half display.
