SWPL Cup final LIVE: Glasgow City v Rangers – radio, text, updates, reaction

Teenager Lisa Forrest’s two goals in two second-half minutes won Glasgow City the SWPL Cup for a record-equalling seventh time – but the first in 11 years – as they defeated holders Rangers in changeable conditions at Fir Park.

An evenly-matched affair sprung in to life with 20 minutes left as 19-year-old Forrest slotted in Lisa Evans’ corner, before the Scotland youth international fired a powerful piledriver from outside of the box seconds after the restart.

It left Leanne Crichton’s Rangers – who were searching for their fourth consecutive triumph in this competition – rocked, rattled and rueing missed opportunities.

Midfielder Kim Shin-Ji shook the raindrops off the crossbar in the first half, while Katie Wilkinson inexplicably missed with the goal at her mercy after City’sLee Gibson parried the ball to her feet with the goal at her mercy.

As well their recent hold on this trophy, Rangers also inflicted SWPL league leaders’ City’s first defeat of the domestic campaign last Sunday, so arrived with something of a psychological edge.

Their mindset proved pivotal as late on – in frankly-farcical conditions with rain and hailstones swirling in the wind – Wilkinson, who netted the winning 90th-minute penalty last Sunday, smashed a superb shot beyond Gibson to force a frantic finish.

The league leaders hung on, though, to not only lift their first domestic cup since 2019, but remain on course for a domestic treble with a Scottish Cup semi-final against Celtic to come.
