West Ham boss Rita Guarino speaking to the BBC: “The work that the players have done today is very, very important. Before the game we knew that Liverpool have improved a lot in possession with the combinations and are very unpredictable in the midfield.

“Liverpool have talented players that can make the difference. So we were very focused on being veyr organised in defence.

“We created some chances in the first half, maybe two or three, we didn’t have many in the second. Liverpool needed to push [for the equaliser] so it is obvious that we defend more when they are doing more up front,

“Obviously the plan was not to defend in the second half of course. We did not find the calm to play with the ball in possession so we didn’t create a lot.”

On whether she feels her side are safe from the relegation play-off: “Mathematically it doesn’t show but of course it is three important points especially with just lhree games left for Leicester, it’s big. We will have to wait for Wednesday and see.”

On growing next season: “We have ambition. I have ambition. The club has ambition. We need to grow and work day by day and of course we are looking to improve the team in the summer, that is one of th goals we want to achieve.”
