Somerset have won the toss and will bowl first in Taunton against a Yorkshire side that includes Joe Root and Jonny Bairstow.

The hosts are second in the table, just one point behind leaders Warwickshire, but with the Bears not in action this week, Lewis Gregory’s side will be eyeing top spot.

Somerset give a debut to Thomas Rew, brother of James Rew, who will hope to make a similar impact on the county game as his older sibling has done, but they are without the injured Tom Kohler Cadmore, Lewis Goldsworthy and Tom Banton.

Yorkshire are hoping to continue improving after a slow start to the season which has left them second bottom after three games in which they have lost once and drawn twice.

It will be a tough ask to win away at Somerset but they will take heart from a strong showing last week against Sussex when Fin Bean and Sam Whiteman scored centuries and Root fell for 96.

Whiteman misses this game with what the club call “a testicular issue” having been hit there last week.
