Fifa has introduced the ‘Peace Prize’, an award recognising an individual’s actions for peace and unity.
The prize, set to be awarded annually, will be given to the person who has “taken exceptional and extraordinary actions for peace” and “united people across the world”.
The first winner will receive the award from Fifa president Gianni Infantino on Friday, 5 December during the 2026 World Cup draw in Washington DC.
“In an increasingly unsettled and divided world, it is fundamental to recognise the outstanding contribution of those who work hard to end conflicts and bring people together in a spirit of peace,” Infantino said in a Fifa statement.
Infantino added that football “stands for peace” and that the award will “recognise the enormous efforts of those individuals who unite people, bringing hope for future generations”.
