Hello, folks. Pre-season testing is in full swing in Bahrain as teams and drivers get to grips with some of the biggest changes Formula 1 has ever seen. Things like DRS are yesterday’s news. Now we’re talking active aero, boost mode and energy recovery.

Wednesday’s opening day of testing was drama-free, with only a few minor niggles bringing each session to a brief stop. Four-time title winner Max Verstappen had a productive stint in the Red Bull, banking 136 laps and the second-quickest time. The Dutchman is watching on from the sidelines today, as new team-mate Isack Hadjar takes over.

World champion Lando Norris, with a big old number one on his McLaren, was fastest with a time of 1:34.669 on the C2 compound tyre, while Verstappen’s marker was set on the softer C3 rubber.

Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc was third quickest, 0.521secs slower than Norris, ahead of Haas driver Esteban Ocon, who now makes way for Brit team-mate Ollie Bearman.
